It's through a flood of tears that I
have to say that my sweet Chase
left us this morning. He was
lying on the bed, got up, yelped and got
really weak in his back legs.
I called the vet and she said to bring
him in right away. I got him
in the car, but by the time we got to the
vet he was paralyzed. She said
he ruptured a disk in his spine. He's
had some spinal problems for a while,
but I never expected anything like
this to happen. I held his head
while the doctor gave him his final
injection. He went peacefully
- he didn't struggle or fight at all.
It's like he knew it was time and was
ready to go.
Chase would have turned three in March.
He was such a sweet love and
would have done anything for me.
I'm lost without him and I'll miss him forever.

A Great Dane pup," God said, "For you to love him while he lives And mourn him when he's dead." "Maybe for eight or ten years, Or only two or three.... But will you, 'till I call him back, Take care of him for me?" "He'll bring his charms to gladden you And (should his stay be brief) you'll always have his memories As solace for your grief." "I cannot promise he will stay, Since all from earth return -- But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn." "I've looked the whole world over In search of teachers true And from the folk that crowd's life's land -- I have chosen you." "Now, will you give him all your love Nor think the labours vain, |
my Great Dane back again?" I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will be Done," For all the joys this Great Dane will bring, The risk of grief we will run. We'll shelter him with tenderness We'll love him while we may And for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay. But, should you call him back Much sooner than we've planned, We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, And try to understand. If, by our love, we've managed, Your wishes to achieve-- In memory of him that we loved, And to help us while we grieve; When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife, We'll get yet another Great Dane pup and love him all his life.
