Pinch / Prong Collars

"Remember that ANY collar can be potentially dangerous if left on an unsupervised dog. The choke collar is by far the most dangerous and should NEVER be left on an unsupervised dog. The dangling ring can catch on objects.  Dog's often panic under these circumstances and hang themselves. The very design of the choke collar makes it easier for a dog to strangle himself. The design of both the buckle and pinch collars make it more difficult to catch the rings on objects.
Neither pinch collar, Halti, Gentle Leader or buckle collar is designed to tighten as the choke  does. The pinch can only  tighten so far. Be aware that if a dog climbs, jumps, or falls off of something and catches the collar, it can strangle, no matter what kind of collar he is wearing. Check the area the dog stays for anything he could potentially catch the collar on. If you wish to leave a buckle collar with identification tags on the dog., which is a good  idea (and often required by law), make sure the collar is loose enough to pull out of it gets caught on something."

The above quote compliments of Addy's Dog House!

Prong Collar Study (why you SHOULD use the prong (or other collar) rather than a choke)

PLEASE READ THESE LINKS
Before using a pinch or prong collar.

This location gives a very GOOD description, I think of use of the various pieces of equipment! And the PROPER use of the Pinch collar.

The second location, is an actual study (not a common thing): http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4620/prong.html#AStudy
