Where's Luke Skywalker when you really need him?

You may not be aware of it yet but on Friday, April 12, 1996 WAR was declared on alternative medicine MD's and DO's and their patients (yes, that includes you Charlie). The "establishment", (consisting of administrators of powerful medical groups, well-placed officials in state and federal agencies in league with state and federal legislators, paid off by the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries, and sham citizen advocacy groups masquerading as "the grass roots" people) openly and flagrantly called for the complete annihilation of any and all forms of "alternative" medical practice!

This happened at the 84th Annual Meeting of the Federation of State Medical Boards, held in Chicago Illinois. This is the official national group of disciplinary boards for doctors. According to the Ad Hoc Committee on Health Care Fraud, ALL the doctors that use any form of alternative medicine (i.e. chelation therapy, homeopathy, naturopathy, nutritional counseling, vitamin therapy etc.) are QUACKS and are committing medical fraud. Thus they should not only be barred from practice, they should be charged with a criminal act!!

Once they are brought into court on criminal charges, state attorney generals should immediately ask the judge to dismiss any "expert" testimony that supports the quack in question on the basis of a recent Supreme Court ruling that "junk science" testimony, not substantiated in the "peer review literature" (only the New England Journal of Medicine would be considered by the board members as proper literature), may be dismissed by the court and refused as evidence in any and all court hearings.

Moreover, the food supplement industry as well as the alternative medicine device industry, are scandalously fraudulent in all of their practices and must be completely shut down and prosecuted with law determined to put practitioners and companies in jail for years and levy heavy fines.

The FSMB intends to publish a complete report providing guidelines for attorney general offices, medical disciplinary boards, insurance companies, Medicare, the FDA, the FTC, the post office inspector, consumer advocacy groups and related medical groups to detect, investigate and prosecute all parties involved in "quack" medicine.

A detailed outline of : how to craft legal charges, accumulate information, engage in discovery, access data bases, compile evidence, utilize the power of cooperating agencies, secure the services of "reliable quackbusting expert witnesses", and most important, how to defuse a doctor's natural defense, supportive patients who report successful outcomes, all characterized as junk science. All this is designed to ensure that there is NO DEFENSE THAT A PHYSICIAN CAN MAKE ONCE HE'S CHARGED WITH QUACKERY!!

Like the dinosaur, these pea-brained thinkers have a dangerously powerful strength-both financial and from the entrenched "empire" of bureaucrats. For example, a presentation was given at the meeting by a representative of the Federal Trade Commission. This individual felt an absolute driving need to "nail" all the quacks who advertise that their remedies  (meaning chelation, naturopathy, homeopathy, herbal, etc.) can help arthritis, circulation disorders, and other medical conditions. The argument for the FTC is that the "medical community" at large does not agree that these practices have any merit…thus they are fraudulent!! The FTC intends to single out doctors, and companies that put this advertising not only on TV, the radio and the newspapers, but also books, pamphlets, even clinic
brochures. The bottom line for the FTC is simply to stop all forms of quack advertising by whatever means possible.

Obviously the public demand for "alternative" medicine has shaken the "money " boys to the point that they felt the desperate need to construct a "Death Star" to annihilate this threat to the Empire. They tried it at the Federal level and failed when the true "grass roots" people mounted an enormous effort to stop the FDA from classifying supplements as drugs. They tried to introduce legislation to ban homeopathy, and failed. But they learned from this  experience and now are attacking at the State level in a highly organized, well financed, all out WAR. Pity the poor individual physician that comes up against this storm trooper gang! Due process? Forget it.

There are only a very few States that have legislation already in place, protecting the freedom of choice for alternative medicine. The 'Empire' is determined to put an end to any further enactment of 'Alaska-style' patient initiative legislation and is committed to preventing passage of Federal protection as proposed in the stalled Access to Medical Treatment Act.
