1. Always leash walk to go to outside to eliminate (Use a phrase like...lets go Pee...do poopies) Praise the dog and/or treat after the dog finishes. NO FREEDOM IN THE YARD while this training proceeds.
2. Return indoor...leave leash on(use a short (6 inch grab leash). Keep the dog in sight at all times, no matter what the age.
3. If you need to take shower, go to the corner store, hang laundry, work on the computer: CRATE THE DOG
4. Follow this program for up to one month...gradually leaving the dog alone for 1 minute, 5 minutes..etc. If you find that the dog backslides, go back to completely crating ANY time you leave and work your way up to more fredom again, slowly. PLEASE use an organic digesting cleaner (like natures miracle) on ANY existing spots to eliminate the urine odor (do NOT use bleach and ammonia, they smell like urine to a dog)
5. If he returns to the scene of previous crimes, shout UH-UH and immediately take him out on the leash.
This process is for die-hard scent markers,
once all other reasons for marking have been ruled out.

new family member, changes in lifestyle, food, etc)
