Molly was born on Christmas day in 1987. She was a present from my beloved brothers Paul and Mike, and my sister Ellen, bless their souls.........My beloved Zeus, a German Shepherd,

had just been killed by a car (mea culpa) and Bill and I were inconsolable. They felt that a new pup would help us recover from our grief, and arrived about 2 months after Zeus' loss with a tiny bundle of brown and white fur tucked into their coat, she was so sweet and tiny, how could one NOT love her? Well she DID help, but.....she didn't have the calm, relaxed demeanor of my choice of dogs. The house was upside down, topsy turvy, and frankly a living nightmare some days! She has a heart of gold, and a will of STEEL. She is great with kids, and other dogs, but once she decides to do (or NOT do) something, she's immovable.
If you learn one thing from Molly's page, (beside the obvious- SHE's so cute <G>) NEVER buy a pet for another family member please, without their input. While my husband and I dearly love Miss Molly, we'd never choose to own another Pointer...they are just not as laid back and relaxed as we'd like to see living in a 4 room condo with us...........oh, and did I forget to mention the BARKING <G>. As responsible LOVING pet owners, Molly will share our home until she dies, and we make every day the best we can, but she truly tries my patience on a daily basis.
As a dog trainer and behavior modification specialist, I have plenty of tools at my disposal to help any dog "fit in" to a home. What I cannot change, is a dogs innate tendencies to act in breed specific ways. Molly is a true hunter, loves to run, hates to return, loves to swim, has a soft mouth and is hyperactive even at the age of 10 years! So she is exactly what she was bred to be, and that makes her a difficult fit into our family. We don't hunt, rarely swim, (she needs pro-active exercise, we have to play up to an hour of frisbee or fetch with her twice a day). On the other hand, our Danes run loose for about 20 minutes twice a day, and that is it...we play indoor with them for a short bit several times daily, Molly needs outdoor play, she can't control her activity levels as well as the Danes...........
Please, remember poor misunderstood Molly, before you ever buy a pet as a "present" no matter how well meaning it may be!
